Language to Use in Your Will or Trust

Creating a legacy is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Below is suggested language to take to your attorney for use in drafting your bequest.

For an unrestricted gift from the remainder of your estate that permits St. Luke’s University Health Network to determine how to use the funds based on its most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give and devise to St. Luke’s University Health Network, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and its successors, all [or state a percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support.”

For a specific amount from your estate that permits St. Luke’s University Health Network to determine how to use the funds based on its most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give and devise to St. Luke’s University Health Network, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and its successors, the sum of $__________________ to be used for its general support.”

For a gift from the remainder of your estate that permits that permits St. Luke’s University Health Network to use the funds in a specific manner, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give and devise to St. Luke’s University Health Network, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and its successors, all [or state a percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, for the support of _______________ [insert name of a specific fund or program] if and for so long as St. Luke’s University Health Network or its successor determines that the need exists. If St. Luke’s University Health Network or its successor determines at any time that the need does not exist, then St. Luke’s University Health Network or its successor may, in its sole discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”

If you have named St. Luke’s University Health Network in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Note that if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
